Did Nirvana really change the rock and metal scene? Hell no!

Alright, let me let you in on a little secret..... Nirvana is one of the most overrated bands of all time, and no they did not end hair metal and start a new age of music! I dont know why everyone decided they were the band who changed it all. There are 3 bands who truely changed the rock and metal scene forever, even if you dont like them. ready? here they are, Iron Maiden, Metallica, and Pantera. Even if Metallica is a bunch of tools and you dont like there music. if not for these bands we would still be listening to shity bands from seattle singing and screaming in winey voices. and radio rock sucks. you think you are tough shit go download or buy An Ocean Between Us by As I Lay Dying, or The Fall of Ideals by All That Remains. 2 of the best metal bands out there! Rock on. also listen to more classic bands such as Rush and The Who.

  1. Another classic example of hype destroying something that might otherwise be slightly above average. To me, Nirvana is the type of band that really should be heralded the same way basically as Flock of Seagulls. Their songs are all basically the same, sort of depress you, and show zero creativity whatsoever.

The one exception to this song style would be "Smells Like Teen Spirit," which is a good song by itself, until you realize that it's basically a ripoff of Boston's "More Than a Feeling." Not suggesting Nirvana "stole" it, but I think in some unintentional or even subconscious way they "borrowed" the best riff of Boston's best song.

The underserved love that Kurt Cobain gets, I must admit, drives me insane, as all he ever really did was be depressed, which pretty much anyone can do. I'll probably save the gist of this for a larger rant later, but what is the obsession of today's populace with people who are on drugs or depressed? Had Cobain done the exact same artistic work but been a happy guy who lived to be 74, Nirvana would be as lauded as Better Than Ezra. Take yourself out with cocaine or a .44 and you are a hero and a genius.

Metallica is solid as is Pantera; Iron Maiden bores me. But all three have talent and are innovative, rather than hacks who crank out 15 versions of the same depressing funeral dirge per album. Yeah, that's a new concept; the reasn no one ever tried it before was because it was a terrible idea.
